Just curious what everyone has for a computer?

At work I use an IBM Thinkpad R32 which blows half the time. At home I have a custom built wrapped in silverstone case, wicked sexy desktop. Last but not least my mac book pro is pretty dope. I use that quite a bit... but eventually I want to upgrade the memory to 4GB.

I own a shit load of iXsystem servers but that's another story. :)

D820's are nice.. even the 630's are wicked on battery life.

At home, I have a Dell Inspirion. I love it, but it's a bitch to carry - it's heavy :(

Yeah, buddy of mines wife just bought one.. clunky as hell. Although BSD loaded on it with no flaws and gnome runs wicked nice. Your next buy should be a MAC.. I love mine, thin and light.

I will never cross over to the dark side. My dad just bought an XPS from Dell and it's feather light, and not to mention - bad ass.

My only thing against Dell is that they're proprietary.

what oem isn't proprietary? The servers SUCK, and their workstations use cheap hardware, run poorly, and the case design is poo. They try to make their servers look cool, but instead just include a bunch of worthless plastic, and crappy faceplate's you don't need. Workstations are just as bad, they try to make them open all cool, but it just makes it more of a hassle.

From what I've heard, Dell is the worst. NOTHING is interchangeable. I have a Dell Laptop but if I had a desktop, I'd just have my BF build me one :) I can't vouch for their other products.

well any oem computer will be that way. you wont be able to pickup a motherboard at fry's and throw it in your dell/ibm/hp/compaq case. Other then that, memory, pci cards, hard drives, is all standard.

If someone was gonna swap out a MB you might as well build your own stuff. you're only a few components away at that point.

exactly! its kinda pointless, so that's why i don't see why its a big deal about having a proprietary motherboard/ps.

I started using Macs like 5 years ago. There is no way I am going back to PC. It's hard to go away from something that just works day in and day out.

blah blah, mac's are reliable, but i haven't had a windows problem since like win2k. My PC's are very reliable and i rarely reboot.

True... it's how well you know your shit and how good your hardware is. When the up time project was around windows 2000 had the most uptime. I was right behind him with openbsd.. man I miss that site.

Agreed. Mac has also gained Harley Davidson status in that it has almost a cult following, but everything costs AT LEAST double what it's worth.

Actually. Win2k is the best version of windows (stability wise) in my opinion.

it all comes down to quality of hardware, driver quality, and compatibilities. I ran 2k for many years, xp for many years, and now vista since it was RC1, and ive never had any of them BSOD on me.

That's why you wait a day or two before installing an OS update.
Let other people make mistakes first :)
