View Full Version : Foo Fighters
The concert was sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. They played for a solid 3 hours non-stop. Then came back and did a 4 song encore. It went past midnight. So everyone in the back could get some action too, they dropped a second stage down from the ceiling and came and played like 6 songs on that stage.

They are quite fabulous. My boyfriend is going to be very jealous when I tell him about your experience. The Foo Fighters are musical geniuses and are, perhaps, the best rock band currently.

What current rock band do you feel rivals the talent of the Foo Fighters?

Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, Linkin Park

I disagree that those bands compare.

yeah dude. last night my gf and i had a simular convo about it. she said foo fighters should have been in staples center, and linkin park should have been in the forum. I disagreed! its like the differences in like probably 1500 people and 6000 people. they both sold out shows, but i don't think the foo fighters could sell out the staples center. so i said, i bet linkin park sold more albums on their last album vs foo fighters on their last album. it was the difference in like foo fighters (166,000) in the first week, and linkin park (3,300,000) in the first week.

Yeah don't get me wrong. I am a huge David grohl fan. I've seen 3 lp shows...the 4th one next monday. And every time I am never dissapointed.
You just have to see one of their making of *insert album title* here and you'll see what kind of work and creativity they put into their songs. Their latest record "minutes to midnight" is drastically different than their first two titles. But still has sold millions.

I grew up in Shoreline, WA, about 2 miles from where Grohl lived for a while in the '90s. Some of my friends went trick-or-treating at his place. He also recorded at a studio near Richmond Beach, which is about 3 miles from my house, and about 200 yards from my buddy Gavins house.
My band also got its name from a misheard lyric in "My Hero". Our name was "Sgt. Air-Raid" because our singer thought the line "There goes my hero, so ordinary" was actually "There goes my hero, Sgt. Air-Raid" ;) Next time you hear that song, sing "Sgt. Air-Raid" in your head, you'll be doomed to hear that lyric for the rest of your life ;)

Also, I did see Foo Fighters when they came and played with Weezer a couple years back, they did put on a pretty good show. I was surprised by the number of kids with parents though, some of them probably werent alive when Nirvana died and FF arose.

Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl have more creativity in their sleep than Linkin Park. Seriously, Linkin has one song that they do over and over and over and over, etc.
Of course, I guess I feel that way partly because I'd rather listen to a dog puke than listen to Linkin Park. Worst band in the history of sound.

You alre allowed to like both or neither.
As to which it better, this is a matter of taste.
As to which is most successful, compare sales revenues.

Dear sweet lord...mmmbop...seriously? I'd shoot myself in the head first.

Perhaps that's an exaggeration. How about this: I'd rather hear Nickelback than Linkin Park, and that is the honest truth.
Worst band ever.

Worst band ever? That's a pretty big statement.
I am sure you've just heard one of their songs they play on the radio and assume the rest are just like it. If you saw them live you would think a little differently. I am sure Nick can vouch for that one since he just saw them.

I've heard enough of their stuff to know that I'd rather cut my ears off with tin snips than to ever hear them again.
Maybe they're not THE worst band EVER, but they are in the top 3 bands who would be better in their mom's garage, not polluting my airwaves. They're definitely in my top 3 of worst hated bands in the history of sound.
I'd rather hear pop country.

Well we're all entitled to our opinion. Public majority is different than yours.

...and the vast majority of the public is comprised of drooling idiot-sheep.
But, yeah, you're right. Public opinion is different than mine concerning most music, which is why I usually don't listen to the radio.

Haha, that first part sounds like Michael Savage. In general I agree though. In my experience, popularity= mediocraty. The problem is any musical innovation that challenges the status quo, whether it be lyrical or musical will automatically disagree with some listeners simply because it is new and foreign. Therefore popular music faces pressure to remain derivative and inoffensive simply to stay alive as a business. That is also why there are some immensely talented bands and musicians out there who will never see the light of day on the radio simply because they are too progressive in their sound.
That being said, I dont really care if people listen to Linkin Park, or Puddle of Mudd, or even Nickelback (yes, thats right, even Nickelback). If these bands sing what you feel, and float your boat musically, then have at it.
